We start by taking a look at the Axl Eclipse belt and see everything that comes with it. Starting with the Syzygy liner belt, we take a look at the inner belt designed to be used with this belt. The Syzygy deviates from some previous generations by using a less rigid inner belt style. I’ve found this style to work a lot better as it fits the contour of the body better and forms a better connection with the outer belt.
The Syzygy also uses a two-point connection system to hold the belt in place. You connect the overlap of the Velcro like normal but then you have the option to connect the belt again on the other side of the belt with two hook and loop tabs. The Syzygy uses a more aggressive loop design and the inner belt has a very fuzzy overall look to it. The hook and loop are not as discreet as are most other inner hook and loop belts.
Next, we move to the Axl Eclipse belt. I’m instantly blown away by the overall weight of the belt. It feels extremely light while also being extremely strong and rigid. The belt requires no stiffeners due to the tegris material. The Axl Eclipse belt moves easily to form more comfortably around you while also resisting movement in all of the directions you don’t want it to move. The belt won’t twist or bend and is almost impossible to fold over on itself.
Looking at the molle panels, the Axl Eclipse uses laser cut molle panels cut into the tegris. This means you don’t have to worry at all about the molle stitching coming loose from wear and tear. The molle design requires the molle tab to be fed in from a slit at the top and through the center of the belt to begin the routing. This is due to the stitching being sewn closed in the center of the belt.
The front of the Axl Eclipse also uses removable buckles with multiple options for purchase. You can purchase the g-hook model, cobra 25, or the raptor buckle. Installation of the buckles is a breeze and only requires you to slide the main belt clip housing onto the left side of the belt and secure it in place by using the tab installed on the belt. The clip end of the belt can then be attached is secured down by through tension of the hook and loop band. This segment on the right side of the belt can be moved further down the belt for a more comfortable fit.
Simply remove the hook and loop strip and remove the tegris belt portion from the molle at the top and bottom. Then feed it back in the top of the selected molle section and back into the bottom of the molle to tighten it down in place. Reinstall the hook and loop tension strip to let you route the belt clip end easier.
Being concerned with the new Axl Eclipse molle design, we tried multiple molle attachment methods to make sure there weren’t any issues. Testing out helium whisper and malice clips, we had an extremely secure connection with no movement of the pouches. The teklok gave us a little more of a problem but only required us to move the tension band on the teklok to the center in order to look the mag pouch in place. We did have an issue where the belt was too think to fit the Wilder tactical angled mag pouch which is super sad as that pouch is fantastic.
Moving to donning the belt, I found the Axl eclipse and Syzygy inner belt to be extremely comfortable. I will go so far as to say it’s the most comfortable belt I’ve ever worn. This is truly an amazing belt that is half the weight and half the cost of the competition.
If you’re looking for a new belt or you’re looking to buy your first battle belt, the Axl Eclipse is the new standard to beat.
