Congratulations on buying your first pistol and welcome to gun ownership community.

This video goes over the gun and firearm basics to help you become a safe and responsible gun owner. You are now a reflection of our community and you now bear the burden of representing all of us in order to protect our gun rights from those who would like to take them away.

This video assumes you have just purchased a gun and goes over all of the basics you would need. The following areas are included:

4 rules of gun safety

  1.  Treat all guns as if they are always loaded. …
  2. Never let the muzzle cover anything that you are not willing to destroy. …
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot. …
  4. Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it.

We go over the different types of pistols such as Double action/single action (DA/SA), striker fired, and pistol caliber carbines (PCC)

We also review the different ammo calibers and what that means. Alongside ammo caliber choices, we talk about when you should use defensive hollow point rounds and when you can use FMJ or plinking rounds.

The next portion goes over the gun basics and uses snap caps to show how the gun cycles and operates. Here you can see and learn how the bullet travels through the gun so you can better understand how to operate your firearm.

We then review the proper way to grip your pistol. A single accurate shot is easy to do but follow-up shots are extremely difficult if your grip is not proper. You need to build the basics of proper grip in order to place accurate shots rapidly.

We also review the basics of how to align your front and rear sight. We show you how to focus on the front sight post and to blur the rear sight. When engaging a target, you’ll want to keep your eyes on the threat and align the iron sights while leaving them blurred, particularly if you’re shooting both eyes open.

Then we address the required safety items such as safety classes and hearing protection. We review the difference between active hearing protection and passive hearing protection. Active hearing protection actively monitors and removes sound that could damage your hearing. Passive hearing protection simply blocks out all sound up to the headsets noise reduction rating (NRR).

Next we review how you should train with your pistol. You can do a large majority of your training at home with weapon manipulation, presentation, and malfunction clearing. Your training sessions at the range should be for VALIDATION of the training you’ve already put the hard work into. Save your ammo!

Additionally, we address malfunction clearing and go over how to clear basic malfunctions such as failure to eject or failure to feed. You want to always eject the magazine first when clearing a malfunction as adding more bullets to the problem is never helpful. Then hold your slide catch and lock the slide to the rear.

We also go over weapon lights and how you need to have one if you plan to use your gun for home defense. Remember, half the day is dark so if you plan on using your gun during the entire day, you need to be able to see your target. Remember those rules of gun safety! You can’t engage a target if you can’t see it AND what’s behind it.

We also go over some personal questions that you should ask yourself such as do you want to conceal carry (CCW)? Where should you place your gun in your house? How do you plan on getting to your gun in the case of an emergency. These are all items you should ask yourself.

Again, welcome to the gun community and we are glad to have you join us. You will find that as you gain more comfort and confidence with your firearm you will become far more proficient in its operation and accuracy. Your proficiency will make you better equipped to protect yourself and your home in the hopefully unlikely event you ever need to use it.
