The 1x MicroPrism is a large deviation from so many other prisms on the market because it only uses a 1x magnification. Due to this, Primary Arms takes an entirely different approach to prism design and aims at dethroning the red dots on the market for the best close quarter optic.
Looking at the Microprism housing, we see a large front aperture that can also incorporate an anti-reflection filter. These filters don’t impede your view in any way but cut front lens reflection by a huge amount. The elevation and windage adjustments are also extremely large and have a slot for a flat head or a Philips screwdriver to easily make adjustments. So you don’t have that super annoying windage and elevation adjustments from those teeny tiny tools that are usually on red dots.
The 1x Prism starts to get really unique as we move backward and see the diopter adjustment. Remember, the prism is like a scope and needs to be adjusted to your eye. I really like this because I found I got the reticle in the prism clearer than a red dot because I had the image adjusted perfectly to fit my eye.
On the bottom of the optic, we see the acog mini mount and the absolute ton of included mount options. If you wanted to run this on a low mount for a PCC for a high 2 inch position for an ultra-fast CQB, all of the mounts are included.
I think this was my favorite as I was able to just try a whole array of different mount sizes to see what I really liked the best…without having to go out and buy a ton of different mounts.
As Primary Arms always does, they also included an amazing Cyclops Gen 2 reticle. The reticle uses a center chevron dot along with a quick target acquisition circle. I was able to engage targets extremely quickly and it was incredibly easy to transition from target to target with the clean crisp image.
Included in the package are also instructions on how to use the chevron as a mini ACSS reticle for various barrel lengths and caliber types. This means it’s incredibly easy to also use a 1x optic and take it out to 3 or 400 yards easily. If you were shooting at an unknown distance though, the Cyclops gen 2 reticle also includes horizontal and vertical ranging.
Just place the target to measure at the lowest hash mark and it’ll give you the indicated distance of the target. Additionally, if the target height was occluded, you could measure the target shoulder width using the horizontal ranging to obtain the target distance also.
This combo allows you to engage targets extremely quickly at close quarters but then also range and engage targets easily at much further distances, a feat that many red dots just can’t keep up with.
To take things up a level, you can also add the Primary Arms SLx 3x full size magnifier to give you a massively increased target identification at distance.
Hopefully, this review of the Primary Arms 1x MicroPrism was useful in your purchasing decisions
