We start out by unboxing our Blackhound 1-8 and I have to immediately say how blown away I am on their total package. The box includes multiple tools, cleaners, and even has included levels to mount everything. On top of it all, it even includes the mount you need to install it!

The Blackhound 1-8 features one of the most innovative illumination knobs that I’ve seen. The knob actually locks in place so you don’t accidently engage it. The Blackhound LPVO also includes flip up caps that are seen on similarly priced optics but these have a sweet Blackhound logo on them.

The optic uses a standard 2032 battery and even includes a tool to keep from marring the surface of your optic.

The HALO 2 reticle features an innovative reticle that uses MOA measurements. When the reticle is in 1x, it has 3 flanges that stick out of the side and the bottom to aid in target acquisition. I found it to be extremely easy to engage multiple targets rapidly with the reticle in 1x due to this added feature.

When the optic is magnified out to 1x, that small center reticle becomes much larger. It becomes simple to see all of the MOA subtensions and make very small adjustments out to range.

The zero on the Blackhound 1-8 was set to 50 yards so we had both a 50 and 200 yard zero. Due to the optic not having a BDC reticle, we could pick any zero we want and adjust our holdover as required. The Blackhound Optics Halo 2 reticle made this extremely easy to engage targets over 200 yards.

The Blackhound 1-8 LPVO also uses extremely clear glass. During our tests we shows the optics clarity at 600 yards but I was able to clearly see targets set out 1000. This optic definitely has a glass clarity that sets it in a different class from its price.

The Blackhound 1-8 with the halo 2 reticle turned our BRN-180 upper into an absolute monster that can engage at both close and long range with ease. And as an added feature, we also have insanely increased target identification.
