Today we took an indepth look into the Mantis X10 Elite. The Mantis x10 elite is a small device that can be attached to your pistol, rifle, or shotgun via a picatinny rail. The device then measures all of the small muzzle movements caused by the trigger press or the grip. It then translates those micromovements into corrections that can guide you to perfect your shot.
We also take a look into the box and show off what all comes with the Mantis X10 elite. Inside we find a well made pouch that is used to carry all of the mantis items. The case includes a barrel attachment and spacers that can be used to place a picatinny rail on top of a shotgun or other firearm that may not be equipped with a picatinny rail.
It also includes the mantis device itself. The mantis x10 elite is a small device that can be easily attached to any picatinny rail via the locking lever on the front of the device. Also included a USB charging cable for the device. The final items in the pouch include a mantis x10 elite sticker and hardware for the barrel adapter.
Getting the device paired with your phone is simple and easy. Just follow the information card included in the packaging. I had zero issues with pairing the device with the app.
Inside the app we go over all of the different training modes and any small nuances you may encounter from each mode. When the app first starts the program will begin the Mantis X introduction course. I highly recommend following this course to familiarize yourself with the product and the different training. For the sake of the review, we just reviewed every training option.
The first two are x10 elite drills only and include the holster draw analysis and recoilometer. The holster draw analysis has you place the gun in a holster and draw and fire a shot once the buzzer sounds. The app then breaks down your shot to show the time it took you to grip the pistol, the time it took to pull it out of the holster, the time to turn the gun horizontal, the time until it was on target, and then the time the trigger was pressed. It then takes all of these times and shows you your total draw time.
The recoilometer only works in live fire mode but it allows you to take multiple shots and see your recovery time, recoil with, recoil height, and recoil angle. The recoil angle is very useful if you’re trying to maintain pressure on the gun from each of your hands and want to see if it stays consistent from shot to shot.
The other training modes are standard training and begin with the open training. This is a great training mode as it doesn’t have any shot timers or any minimum shot time. You just start training and get to work. The training has a circle that shows your score and where your shots may be deviating. It also offers suggestions on how you can correct your form to prevent the errors in the future.
This training was extremely useful in diagnosing issues with my shot such as shooting to one side or pulling the gun downward as the shot broke.
The Mantis x10 elite also includes mantis benchmark and timed benchmark so you are able to test yourself and see if your skills are improving over time.
Compressed break is a great training tool where you have the gun in position and have to fire the gun as soon as the buzzer sounds. This training adds extra stress and gives you the tools to start building the idea of accuracy at speed.
The training also includes primary and offhand shooting so you are able to analyze and diagnose any issues you may have with shooting one handed.
Another great drill is the hostage taker drill. Here you must draw your firearm and take a shot when the buzzer sounds. There is an added challenge as you have to meet the required PAR time and also meet the minimum score. This is where you really start to pull all of the pieces together to understand accuracy at speed.
The Mantis x10 elite also includes beginner, advanced, and elite courses. This way you have your training tailored in a way that is designed to make you a better and more intuitive shooter. These courses really test your ability to make a great shot at speed and if you can do it consistently.
Having done a ton of dry fire training in learning pistols, I have to say that the mantix x10 elite is my new go-to training solution for new shooters. It is so easy to diagnose and correct shooting flaws before they become real training scars.
