As we dive into the 2.5-10 Griffin scope, we see the scope is set in First Focal Plane (FFP). This means the reticle changes size as the scope moves in and out of magnification.
One of the main advantages to FFP is that the reticle is true at all magnification ranges and the bullet drop or mil hash markings will always be true.
A potential downside to FFP is that the reticle often has to be designed in smart and oftentimes expensive ways to preserve the view of the reticle at 1x as the reticle itself gets very very small.
By removing the 1x and going straight to 2.5, you don’t see this issue and the scope also gains the huge advantage of a massively improved eye relief when compared to a LPVO. For a hunting scope, the loss of the 1x is far less important as it is rare, even though it happens, that the target will be within 10 yards.
One of the most amazing things about this scope is the Griffin Reticle. It includes both the quick engagement ring and precision chevron to either engage targets quickly or take those long range precision shots.
The Griffin reticle is also similar in design to the Raptor M2 reticle that we reviewed on the 1-8 PLx LPVO. It has both vertical ranging and horizontal ranges to range your target and engage without taking your eye off the scope.
We then see the Griffin reticle take things up a level over the Raptor M2 as it also includes a full Christmas tree with mil hashes and wind holds out to 14 mil.
While this seems like a small change, this is particularly huge for a hunting or battle rifle setup. The standard BDCs only allow you to use one caliber at one barrel length if you want to have all the correct measurements. The Griffin mil tree means you can use this scope on any caliber weapon system or any barrel lengths.
This is particularly potent if you have a unique high caliber build in a shorter or longer barrel length. You can just get your correct mil measurements and have all the engagement data you need for literally any weapon system or platform.
From a hunting standpoint, this is amazing as I could just use one scope and swap it around at the start of the season to whichever platform I wanted to use.
The 2.5-10 GLx Griffin scope also uses locking turrets so you don’t have to worry about your rifle losing zero when you’re traveling through the woods or if your scope bumps up against your gear. The turret stays locked in place and you depress the center button in order to free the turret. Allowing you maintain your zero at all times if you’re using holdover or rotate the turrets to adjust the precision chevron to be right on target.
Looking at the parralax, we also see an adjustment that allows our focus to shift incredibly close and also out to those far distances. Again, we see how well the scope can perform in hunting applications in both short and long shots as the parralax allows you to align super close or at a long distance.
The glass clarity of the Primary Arms 2.5-10 is astounding and gives you the ability to positively identify targets at a level not seen in this price range. When turning the magnification up to 10x, It was clear and easy to engage targets at 600 yards. The buttery smooth parallax would bring the image into clear alignment and allow you to see some incredible detail at longer ranges.
Hopefully this review of the Primary Arms 2.5-10 GLx Griffin was helpful in your purchasing decision
