We start by opening the box and taking a look at the Scalarworks LEAP mount. One of the first things I noticed was that the rings close on the side. This seems like a small feature but it keeps you from having to mess with the top caps.
Sometimes the top caps can touch the outside of the scope mount and cause the rings to not tighten uniformly so this a very welcome addition.
On the bottom of the Scalarworks LEAP is also the secret sauce, the level drive screw. This seems like a very simple feature and it is genius in its simplicity. The Scalarworks LEAP scope mount takes advantage of the fact that every scope is actually flat on the bottom.
They then use a perfectly flat machined screw that can then bottom out against the bottom of the scope. This means that the screw and the bottom of the scope are what is used to level the entire optic.
So you don’t need a ton of fancy tools and equipment to install and level your scope. And to take it an additional step further, the Scalarworks LEAP mount includes one singular tool. This single tool is all you need to tighten both the rings and the level drive screw (you need a torque wrench!)
The mount itself is even tool-less. Just turn the dials a few clicks and alternate between the two dials. Make sure you don’t use any tools or you may damage the mechanism.
Due to the ingenious design of the rings, the simple level drive screw, and the fast tool-less mounting system, it is able to install a scope in minutes. You can level and torque everything and be ready to shoot faster than you ever have before.
The Scalarworks LEAP mount makes for a great addition to our BRN 180 223 wylde optics test platform. In the future, we will use the scalarworks leap mount for all optics that do not include a mount with their optic.
