The first thing you’ll notice on the JSTA pouch is the large flap that covers the main pouch segment. Behind that area, there is a smaller loop backed opening on the rear of the pouch.
This loop backed area is perfect for connecting in various size elastic retention pouches that Spiritus also sells. I did find that the elastic pouches can be quite annoying when it comes to reindexing and you can also use esstac style kydex retention as long as you use one wrap to secure the kydex closed.
I found I could fit in one extra mag and a multitool easily on this pouch segment. I did find the mags sit a bit lower and make that coke can style grip more difficult as not much of the magazine is exposed.
Looking at the rear of the JSTA, we see there are two included straps that can be connected into various different molle and belt setups. There is also a belt pass-through if you don’t want to connect in via molle. This does cause some challenges though on most belts as you have to remove all the other items and disassemble it to slide the pouch on.
I additionally found the pouch lifted up when you lift the flap when using this connection method. I found the molle connection was easier to use and using the middle molle segments kept the pouch from rising up when opening.
Opening up the JSTA pouch we also see two compartments. One large and one smaller, divided by fabric that is loop backed facing towards the larger pocket area. This allows the flap to closed over both sections or the flap can be connected into the inner loop to have a smaller secured portion and then have the larger pocket for easy access.
The different pouch areas and setups made the JSTA an extremely flexible bit of kit that increased the functionality of my belt, plate carrier, or chest rig. If you’re looking for a way to make your setup more flexible and fulfill multiple different roles, the JSTA pouch from Spiritus Systems is a great pick.
